Diana Gurtskaia was born in 1979 in Abkhazia, which is one of two Georgian breakaway regions
and “frozen conflict zones.”
In 1995 she successfully graduated from the Tbilisi School for Blind People.
She was still an elementary school student when
Irma Sokhadze, Georgian singer, put Gurtskaia on the stage of the Big Hall of Tbilisi Philharmonics.
It was Sokhadze, who
first introduced Gurtskaia to wider audience.
In 1995 Gurtskaia competed in a musical contest “Yalta-Transit-Moscow” and was awarded a special prize
from honorable
jury. The same year she met Igor Nikolaev, Russian composer and took her first steps with him on Russian stage.
Gurtskaia
also performed before an American audience at the famous Madison Square Garden in New York. In 2000, Ghurtskaia entered the
Gnesina Musical Insitutte, Vocal Department and graduated from it as an intern in 2003.
In 2000 Ghurtskaia’s first album entitled “You are Here” saw the light.
The second album “You Know Mother” was released in
spring of 2003. In 2004, Gurtskaya was enrolled at the Russian Academy of Theatre and Arts. She is
in her fourth year for
the time being.
In 2005, Gurtskaia was awarded St. Barbara Medal by head of the Ukrainian church.
The same year, she was also awarded
Rukhnama gold medal by Turkmenistan President Saparmurat Niyazov. In 2007 Vladimir Putin,
Russian Federation’s President
gave her the title of a Russian Honorable Artist.
In 2007, Georgia’s president Mikheil Saakashvili granted her with Medal of Honor.
Gurtskaia has a number of important
prizes and awards to her credit. She has recorded duets with various well-known foreign singers including
Ray Charles, Toto
Cutugno and Demis Roussos. Ghurtskaia’s has her third album already ready.
Gurtskaia is married and has one son by the name of Konstantine.
